ABOUT SAA
The Student Alumni Association was founded in 1985 and is sponsored by the Alumni Association. We strive to foster a sense of pride and tradition in the University. Our programs are designed to promote interaction between students and alumni for the betterment of the University.
SAA's primary goals are to generate spirit surrounding the University among the student body, provide information about the Alumni Association to the student body and keep the Alumni Association aware of developments on campus, which affect student perception of the University.

MAJOR EVENTS!
OOZEBALL 2013 SOLD OUT!
Oozeball is one of the greatest traditions running at the University of Rhode Island. This giant mud volleyball tournament takes place every year right before final exams in the Spring semester. Over 1,200 students and alumni take part in the fun. This year the tournament will take place on April 28, 2013 and the theme is United States of Ooze! Oozeball is sure to leave you with mud in your hair and lasting memories.
PURCHASE A SURVIVAL KIT
Stressed during exams? Then you need a survival kit! Each semester the Student Alumni Association works to create a kit full of necessities to get students through their exams. The survival kits have a different theme each semester and contain things such as snacks, drinks, school supplies, a t-shirt, and other themed items. They are often ordered by families throughout the semester and students pick them up the week of finals. Survival kits are a great way to show a student you’re thinking of them during finals and is a fun way to help get students through the stress of studying. Buy a kit today!
RHODY RALLY
Rhody Rally is the school’s largest pep rally, held to boost the school spirit on campus. Rhody Rally is a celebration honoring the sports teams, both varsity and club). It features high intensity performances, contests, giveaways and a bonfire following the event. Rhody Rally always take place before Homecoming in Keaney gymnasium. Tickets and Rhody Rally t-shirts are sold around campus during the week leading up to the main event.
HOMECOMING
Homecoming is a long standing tradition and the Student Alumni Association is the lead provider of campus spirit. In the week leading up to Homecoming weekend, SAA sponsors advertising events on the quad featuring Del’s lemonade and hot apple cider. The day of the Homecoming football game we help coordinate Rhody tent village filled with fun activities and vendors in front of Mackel Field House. Our Homecoming King and Queen is announced during the Homecoming football game and you’ll be sure to see us rooting for Rhody in the stands!
NEARLY NAKED MILE
SAA started a new tradition in March 2012 called the Nearly Naked Mile. This was a community service effort to collect clothing items for the Johnny Cake center in Peacedale while raising awareness of the homeless that inhabit Rhode Island. Students had to donate bags of clothing in order to run a one mile race around the Quad in minimal clothing. We are excited to begin planning our second annual event!
RHODY THE RAM APPEARANCES
Rhody the Ram, the University mascot, has made his mark at hundreds of athletic games, Admissions events and community appearances. The Ram made its first official appearance in 1929. And while over the years the name has changed from Battering Ram to Ramses to Rhody the Ram, our much-loved mascot has always been right at the heart of URI spirit.
Want to be king of the campus? If you would like to sign up to become Rhody the Ram, please contact rhodytheram@urisaa.org and fill out the sign up form.
If you would like to have Rhody make an appearance at your on campus event, please contact his Manager at rhodytheram@urisaa.org and fill out the request form. All requests must be made no later than 2 weeks prior to the event.
