On the evening of April 29, the Textiles, Fashion Merchandising, and Design department and the Textiles Advisory Board welcomed 150 guests to the first Spring Splash. The event, which recognized the accomplishments of alumni and showcased select student fashions, raised more than $15,000 for scholarships, guest speakers, and field trips.

The evening began with a reception at the University Club followed by dinner in the Memorial Union Ballroom and a runway show, “Hot, Hip, Haute,” featuring student models wearing student designs. Each design winner received a $1,000 scholarship donated by the clothing firm Aeropostale, a specialty retailer of youth apparel.

Textile Advisory Board chair Glenn Palmer ’75, president and CEO of Amerex, presented the first Splash of the Year award to Aeropostale, which contributed an additional $5,000 to the proceeds of the evening. Also honored were the first members of the TMD Alumni Wall of Fame: Evelyn Siefert Commentucci ’69, M.S. ’72, president of Sewtique in Groton Conn; Claudia P. Iannuccilli ’82, M.S. 95, of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts; and Lauren Keach ’98, of Victoria’s Secret Stores Design Studio in New York.
